Kuwait The Blue football team tames the Philippine Azkals in their first leg match. They showed Azkals that they can stop them in their dreams of becoming the Asia’s best.

But still the Ph Azkals team still showed a good fight amidst of being tagged as the underdog in the match last Saturday night.

The more experienced Kuwaiti football team prevailed over the Azkals in the first leg of their second round World Cup Qualifying duel at the Mohammed Al-Hammad Stadium. The match ended in 0-3 in favor for Kuwait.

The first leg game looked more like a home match for the Azkals because Filipino OFWs flocked the stadium and they outnumbered the home fans. The Azkals team was somewhat unlucky not to score twice early of the game. Then the Al-Azraq broke through Azkals defense added two more goals in the second half that they completely dominated.

“We had a great fight here in Kuwait,” Weiss said. “The first half was one of our best performances. If we scored there we never know how the match would have turned. Kuwait is a strong team and they classically played us out in the second half. I just wish we wouldn’t have conceded a third goal.”

The Azkals vs Kuwait second leg match will be at Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila. The PH Azkals need to win by four goals or more to make it the third round for the first time. If Azkals have a 3-0 win it will only send the game into extra time so they need to get at least 4 goals in the next match.

“It’s quite disappointing because i knew we could have held them a 2-0 now with a 3-0 result it has become tougher task in Manila,” said Azkals manager Dan Palami. “But knowing that we have played against a team that has just beaten Saudi Arabia and Iraq and has just been crowned gulf champion should be something to be proud of as an emerging football country.”

Azkals vs. Kuwait 1st Leg Match Highlights

Despite of the great defense by Azkals on their 1st leg match against Kuwait held at at the Mohammad Al Hamad Stadium, the team was all disappointed of not having even one goal though they had several attempts. The previously held game for the 2nd round World Cup qualifier gave Kuwait’s Al-Azraq a 3-0 lead leaving Philippine Azkals to target for 4-0 in order to defeat them and advance to the 3rd round of the World Cup qualifier.

In the absence of Azkals’ team captain Alexander Borromeo, midfielder Emelio Caligdong step up to lead their game. Azkals starting lineup was consist of Etheridge, Gier, Sabio, Del Rosario, James & Phil Younghusband, Ott, de Jong, Jonsson, Caligdong, Guirado while for Al-Azraq's, they were GK Nawaf Al Khaldi (c) dfamer matoug, fahad awad, hussain fadhel, mesad nada, mf fahad al enezi, fahed el ibrahim,talal el amer waleid ali, fw bader al mutwa, yousef naser.

#20 Yousef Naser scored Kuwait’s first goal, Musaed Neda scored the second, and #11 Fahed Al-Ibrahim made the final goal. Despite of the very physical game, great sportsmanship had been seen from Kuwait's GK Nawaf Al Khaldi as he helped Guirado when he’s down and in pain.

During the game, yellow card was given to #4 of Kuwait Hussain Fadel, #13 Musaed Neda. For team Azkals, MF Jason de Jong got one at 54:45 minutes of the game and another one for MF Simon Greatwich just before the final whistle.

Azkals are hoping to get more support from Filipino fans as they pave their way to the 2nd leg match versus Kuwait to be held live at their home court, Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila, on July 28, Thursday at 5:30pm. The team also look forward to the return of their team captain Aly Borromeo and midfielder Stephan Schrock, who were suspended for the 1st leg after incurring 2 yellow cards in the Azkals' 1st round qualifier against Sri Lanka.

Angel And Phil Younghusband Dating Exclusively

Well, we've seen how worked up Phil Younghusband was when he played and scored in the Azkals vs Sri Lanka match and maybe because Angel Locsin was there to watch and cheer him up.

Believe it or not, young star Angel Locsin and Philippine Azkals member Phil Younghusband are dating exclusively. In one of their interviews, Angel and Phil said that they are content with what they have at the moment, and taking “that relationship” to a different level is something they both believe will have to wait.

“We are exclusively dating…we don’t want to rush things,” said Phil and Angel quickly added, “We are just enjoying our every moment together.”

Apparently the two agreed that they will exclusively date each other and that they will not see or date any other while in keeping the agreement.

On the other hand, you might already seen Angel Locsin and Phil Younghusband commercial for Century Tuna. They were introduced as a couple but still Angel says that she's single and defended that this is all not a gimmick since Phil asked Angel out on a date publicly on Twitter.

Azkals Still Focused Amidst Rape Allegation

Team Azkals is currently preparing for the first leg of the Azkals vs Kuwait match for the second round of the 2014 World Cup Asia qualifiers. Four members of the team Azkals are now facing one of the toughest scandal controversies at them.

The four members of the Philippine Azkals football team have been accused of rape but team manager, Dan Palami, denied the allegation saying that the rumored scandal came from the Internet where anything can be posted.

It all started when a Filipino gossip blog posted a print screen of conversation between Azkals head coach Michael Weiss and a certain Paul Weiler, and keeper Neil Etheridge and Weiler. The four members of the team namely Neil Etheridge, Anton del Rosario, Jason Sabio and Simon Greatwich allegedly raped a woman in Palami’s house.
Till now we still do not know if the Azkals rape scandal is true.

According to Palami, “[So far] we only have two statements—the blog entry and the statement of Paul Weiler—both are not credible,". He will be investigating the incident although the accounts of the players and those in the house did not match the accusations of the blogger.

“Before we judge or post anything, siguro check muna natin yung facts because maraming taong naaapektuhan," Palami added.

Palami, for his part, said it is “unfortunate" that the team is being hounded by such a negative issue. “But we cannot be distracted from our goal," he said.

“I think that there are a few people out there who just want to take away the limelight from the Azkals,". Despite the rape controversy, the Azkals team is focused to win their Kuwait match on July 23, according to team captain Aly Borromeo.

2 Azkals Suspended in Azkals vs Kuwait Match

Two members of the Philippine Azkals Team are suspended because of the yellow cards that they got in the Azkals vs Sri Lanka match. The AFC suspended Aly Borromeo and Stephan Schrock of the Philippine Azkals in the first game of Azkals vs Kuwait match.

The bad news was revealed in the middle of celebration mood after the 4-0 win over Sri Lanka. According to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), the yellow cards that Borromeo and Schrock received in the games against Sri Lanka is the reason why they will not be able to play in their next game.

“The yellow cards received by your players from round 1 & 2 shall be carried forward,” Guarav Thapa, Competitions Officer of the Asian Football Confederation, said in an official email.

The Philippines vs Kuwait World Cup qualifier will be played on July 23 and 27.
