Azkals vs. Kuwait 1st Leg Match Highlights





Despite of the great defense by Azkals on their 1st leg match against Kuwait held at at the Mohammad Al Hamad Stadium, the team was all disappointed of not having even one goal though they had several attempts. The previously held game for the 2nd round World Cup qualifier gave Kuwait’s Al-Azraq a 3-0 lead leaving Philippine Azkals to target for 4-0 in order to defeat them and advance to the 3rd round of the World Cup qualifier.

In the absence of Azkals’ team captain Alexander Borromeo, midfielder Emelio Caligdong step up to lead their game. Azkals starting lineup was consist of Etheridge, Gier, Sabio, Del Rosario, James & Phil Younghusband, Ott, de Jong, Jonsson, Caligdong, Guirado while for Al-Azraq's, they were GK Nawaf Al Khaldi (c) dfamer matoug, fahad awad, hussain fadhel, mesad nada, mf fahad al enezi, fahed el ibrahim,talal el amer waleid ali, fw bader al mutwa, yousef naser.

#20 Yousef Naser scored Kuwait’s first goal, Musaed Neda scored the second, and #11 Fahed Al-Ibrahim made the final goal. Despite of the very physical game, great sportsmanship had been seen from Kuwait's GK Nawaf Al Khaldi as he helped Guirado when he’s down and in pain.

During the game, yellow card was given to #4 of Kuwait Hussain Fadel, #13 Musaed Neda. For team Azkals, MF Jason de Jong got one at 54:45 minutes of the game and another one for MF Simon Greatwich just before the final whistle.

Azkals are hoping to get more support from Filipino fans as they pave their way to the 2nd leg match versus Kuwait to be held live at their home court, Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila, on July 28, Thursday at 5:30pm. The team also look forward to the return of their team captain Aly Borromeo and midfielder Stephan Schrock, who were suspended for the 1st leg after incurring 2 yellow cards in the Azkals' 1st round qualifier against Sri Lanka.
